Pastor Kanyari reveals why he’s running for Kasarani Parliamentary seat

Pastor Victor Kanyari has outlined the reasons behind his decision to contest the Kasarani Member of Parliament seat in the 2027 General Election.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Kanyari said he wants to represent Kasarani residents because of challenges affecting the constituency, including poor roads, water shortages and limited access to bursaries.

The preacher said his political ambition is centred on improving services and creating better opportunities for residents, especially young people. “I want to vie to be an MP in Kasarani, and I believe it is possible. When you look at Kasarani, there are poor roads, water shortages, and many other problems,” Kanyari said.

He added that he hopes to work with his team to improve the area and ensure residents benefit from development projects. “I am struggling to make sure that my team and I return Kasarani to how it was before and make it better. I want bursaries to be available in Kasarani,” he added.

Kanyari promises focus on services

Kanyari said he wants to become a voice for residents and work on issues that affect their daily lives.

He listed education, healthcare, employment and development among the areas he would prioritise if elected. “My journey to serve Kasarani is driven by a simple purpose: to be a voice for the people and work tirelessly for better education, healthcare, jobs and development,” he said.

“Together, we can build a stronger Kasarani,” he added.

The preacher also repeated his promise to support free education for children, saying parents should not be forced to struggle with school fees.

Youth unemployment and insecurity

Kanyari also linked the rise in insecurity and criminal activity among young people to poverty and lack of employment.

He said many youths are pushed into crime because they do not have access to jobs or other ways to earn a living. “Poverty in Kenya has led to why we have so many goons. No one is born a goon, but poverty reaches a point where people start becoming goons,” he said.

Kanyari urged the government to create more opportunities for young people, saying unemployment remains one of the biggest concerns facing the country. “The youths do not have a problem. The bigger problem is the lack of job opportunities and lack of creativity on how jobs can be available,” he said.

“If young people are employed, there will be no goons roaming around in Kenya,” he added.

Shift from MCA race

Kanyari first announced his political plans in April 2025 during a church service, when he asked members of his congregation whether he should vie for the Njiru Ward MCA seat or contest for the Kasarani parliamentary position.

The congregation appeared to support the MP race, prompting him to shift from his earlier MCA ambition.

He later made his intention public, writing, “Kasarani Constituency, get ready; in 2027 I’m vying for MP Kasarani.”

Kanyari also spoke about recent protests and reported abductions, saying the government should address the concerns of young people. “Most youths go for protests because of a lack of jobs. If everything is handled well, there will be peace and everything will operate normally,” he said.

The Kasarani parliamentary contest is expected to attract several candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
