Nigerian singer Ruger explains why he never shows one eye

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ruger has once again addressed questions about his signature one-eye look, this time joking that he keeps it covered because his eyes are “too cute.”
The singer made the playful remark during a livestream on Friday, July 24, 2026, with Nigerian comedian and content creator Shank Comics.
When asked why he does not show one eye, Ruger laughed and replied: “Because my eyes are too cute.”

Ruger’s latest comment comes after he previously gave a more symbolic explanation for the eye patch.
In an earlier interview, the singer said the look represents his focus on music rather than being just a fashion statement or branding gimmick.
“My name is Ruger. I don’t shoot literally, but musically I shoot. The way a sniper closes one eye to aim and hit their target is how I am with my music. One eye is shut so I can focus well, aim and hit right with my songs and projects,” Ruger said.
The explanation resonated with fans, who viewed the eye patch as part of the singer’s artistic identity rather than simply a fashion accessory.
Education plans remain
During the same interview, Ruger also spoke about his education after fellow Nigerian star Rema returned to school.
He said pursuing further studies remains part of his plans, although he is not in a hurry.
“Rema recently went back to school, I know. However, my plans towards furthering my education are personal. I’d do it when I want to do it, and I guess you will know when it happens,” Ruger noted.
The singer also revealed that before breaking into music, he worked at Lagos’ Computer Village, where he started as a phone repair apprentice before becoming a technician.
He said the experience allowed him to gain valuable skills and assured his parents that he was making progress before eventually meeting music executive D’Prince.
