Murugi Munyi questions why nursery school fees is expensive
Content creator Murugi Munyi has questioned why nursery school fees are becoming increasingly expensive, sparking conversation about the rising cost of early education.
She raised concerns over how much parents are required to pay for young children at a stage she described as very basic. Murugi said the discussion should be more open and honest.
“Can we have an honest conversation about why school fees cost what it costs?” Murugi Munyi said on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

She explained that many people feel the cost does not match what young children actually do in school. According to Murugi, nursery school mainly involves simple activities that should not attract very high fees. She added that parents continue paying despite the pressure because education is important.
“The child is just going to poop and colour and nap, and you are paying Ksh100K,” she said.
Murugi also pointed out that the rising costs are affecting many families. She said that even though the rates can be very high, parents still try to manage because they want the best for their children. According to her, the situation is becoming difficult for many households.
“The rates can be really insane,” Murugi Munyi said.
Motherhood and rising expectations
Murugi further shared her thoughts on how motherhood changes people’s mindset and motivation. She explained that having children pushes parents to become more ambitious and focused in life. According to her, parenting also comes with the responsibility of setting a good example for children.

“Having kids really propels you to be a better …like if you were ambitious before, now you are ambitious-er. Add that to the dictionary,” she said.
She also spoke about her personal goals as a mother, saying she wants her daughters to grow up seeing a strong example at home. Murugi explained that she wants her children to understand that being a woman and a mother does not limit success. She added that financial independence is important.
“I have daughters, and I want them to see that being a mom, being a woman, does not mean you have a lesser quality in life,” Murugi Munyi said.
Murugi further said she wants her children to see her as a present and responsible mother who is also financially independent. She explained that balancing family and career is important for her. According to her, both roles can exist together.
“I want them to see I am a good mom here at home, and also I have my own money,” she said.
