Mosiria warns youth against being used by politicians during protests
Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has urged young people to be careful during protests, warning them against being influenced by politicians to cause destruction.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Mosiria said some leaders may use young people to protect their interests or push their political ambitions.
He urged the youth to think about the consequences of their actions before taking part in demonstrations that involve damaging property or breaking the law. “Young people, don’t allow yourselves to be misused by politicians whose main interest is to use you either to protect their power or to gain power,” Mosiria said.
His message comes at a time when political tensions and protests have continued to raise concern in different parts of the country.
While peaceful demonstrations are protected under the law, protests have at times turned chaotic, with some people accused of vandalising businesses, damaging vehicles and disrupting movement.

Court cases can affect your life
Mosiria said young people should remember that they may face serious consequences if they are arrested while taking part in unlawful activities.
According to him, politicians may promise to help those arrested, but the people involved could still be left to deal with court cases long after the protests end. “When you destroy someone else’s property, you are on your own. They may pretend to bail you out of jail so they can continue using you, but you will be left with a court case that could affect you for the rest of your life while they move on,” he said.
He noted that a criminal case can affect a person’s future opportunities, including employment, business and travel plans.
Mosiria asked young people to consider whether the people encouraging them to protest would put their own children in the same position. “Have you ever seen a politician’s son or daughter taking part in demonstrations and destroying other people’s property? Think about that,” he posed.

Think before acting
The county official encouraged young people to remain focused on their goals and avoid being drawn into activities that could harm their future.
He said the youth should be alert when politicians or other individuals try to use them for personal gain. “Use your brain wisely. Think about your future before allowing anyone to manipulate you,” Mosiria said.
His remarks add to the ongoing conversation about the role of young people in politics and public protests.
As the country continues to experience political debates, Mosiria urged the youth to speak up on issues affecting them while making choices that do not put their lives, freedom or future at risk.
