Kenya Power lists areas to experience electricity outages on Saturday, August 8

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity interruption in parts of Nyeri County on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as the company carries out network maintenance.
The outage will affect customers in Ihururu and Kimathi in Nyeri County, with the interruption scheduled to last for eight hours.
According to Kenya Power, the affected customers should expect the power interruption between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm on Saturday. The company listed the areas under its Mt. Kenya Region in its notice on planned power interruptions dated August 8, 2026.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under a planned power interruption dated 08.08.2026,” Kenya Power said.
The company said the planned interruption will affect Ihururu Market, Kahigaini, Karunaini and Dedan Kimathi Secondary School. Other customers located near the listed areas will also be affected during the period when the power supply is interrupted.
Kenya Power listed the affected locations under parts of Nyeri County. The areas named in the notice are Ihururu and Kimathi, with customers in the listed locations expected to experience the outage during the stated hours.
Affected areas in Nyeri County
Customers in Ihururu Market are among those listed for the planned interruption on Saturday. Kahigaini residents and other customers in the area are also expected to be affected as the company carries out the planned work.
The notice also listed Karunaini among the affected locations. Dedan Kimathi Secondary School and adjacent customers were included in the areas expected to experience the interruption during the scheduled period.
Kenya Power has therefore advised customers in the listed locations to take note of the planned outage. The interruption is scheduled to begin at 9.00 am and continue until 5.00 pm, covering most of the daytime period.
The planned outage comes days after Safaricom restored the M-Pesa service used to purchase Kenya Power prepaid electricity tokens. The service had been disrupted on Monday evening, August 3, 2026, preventing some customers from completing their token purchases.
Safaricom later confirmed that a technical problem had affected KPLC prepaid token purchases through M-Pesa. The company apologised to affected customers and said its technical team was working to restore the service.
During the disruption, customers reported failed attempts to purchase prepaid electricity tokens despite having enough money in their M-Pesa accounts. Following the restoration, customers were once again able to purchase Kenya Power prepaid electricity tokens through M-Pesa, with transactions being processed normally.
