Gen Z Mama Mboga says her engagement with Mike Brown was not real
Content creator Scholastica Meme, popularly known as Gen Z Mama Mboga, has admitted that her engagement with musician Mike Brown was not real, saying the entire storyline was created as part of promotional content.
In an Instagram video to her fans on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Scholah expressed deep regret over the fake storyline that she says has now backfired and affected her mentally.
“I came with an apology… It was wrong to do that content to begin with,” she said.
“We did that because we were doing business with Mike Brown. He’s an artist, a singer. We were trying to promote him.”
She explained that the idea started after she featured in his unreleased song. To boost his visibility, they created the fake proposal, engagement ring moment, and a Malindi vacation storyline so fans would engage with the content and discover his music.
“We did the fake engagement and then the Malindi vacation… so that you guys could believe it. But I have apologised. It was wrong. We were trying to lie to you.”
Content strategy
Scholah said the romantic storyline was part of a broader promotional approach meant to drive attention to the music project they were working on together.
She added that the staged moments were designed to appear real to the audience in order to maximise engagement online.

The content creator said the aftermath of the posts took a toll on her emotionally, as reactions from fans grew and the storyline gained traction online.
She said she later reflected on the decision and regretted participating in the scripted approach.
Scholah also said there were disagreements that followed after the content went viral, adding that she felt pressure during the fallout as discussions continued publicly.
Future direction
Scholah announced she is stepping away from scripted romantic content moving forward.

“Whether it’s marketing or not, I’m done with any kind of content like that again. I’m sorry to my fans. I know not everybody will believe me, but that one person out there who can believe me, I appreciate.”
She also urged the public to avoid misleading narratives around her name and focus on more positive conversations.
