Content creator and comedienne Dem Wa Facebook has opened up about the distressing experience she went through when she began experiencing unusually painful periods, revealing that the severity of the pain eventually pushed her to seek medical attention.

Dem Wa Facebook, whose real name is Millicent Ayuwa, shared the personal experience on Sunday, September 27, 2026, while speaking at media personality Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors (N.E.W.) awareness event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

The comedienne recalled how her periods would leave her severely unwell, with the pain becoming so intense that she would struggle to move around the house.

She explained that the discomfort was far beyond what she considered normal period pain, leaving her crawling around in agony and unable to function normally throughout the day.

“We ladies go through a lot, and some people see cramps and think it is just normal. I remember way back when I was getting my periods, I would get so sick and I would be unwell the whole day. I would be crawling in pain in the house, and I would not be in any mood the whole day,” she recalled.

The comedian has also revealed that the persistent pain eventually made her concerned that there could be an underlying problem with her health.

Rather than continuing to endure the pain, she decided to seek medical attention in an effort to establish what was causing the unusually severe symptoms.

Dem Wa Facebook said she specifically wanted to be examined and understand why her periods were causing her such extreme discomfort.

“And so that is why one day I decided to go and get checked and know what may be wrong. Because my periods were abnormally painful,” she explained.

She has also recalled the outcome of the medical checkup, saying she was informed that she did not have a serious underlying condition but had a hormonal imbalance.

According to Dem Wa Facebook, she was subsequently given medication, after which she began experiencing significantly less period pain.

“So when I went, they told me I do not have any issue. It is just that I had a hormone imbalance. And I was given some meds, and from there I have not been feeling period pains a lot,” she said.

Her experience became part of the wider conversation at Natalie Githinji’s event, where speakers and attendees shared personal experiences and highlighted the need for women to take unusual or severe symptoms seriously.

Dem Wa Facebook has also urged women not to dismiss severe period pain as something they have to endure, encouraging them to seek medical attention when their symptoms become unusually painful.

She cautioned women against assuming that severe pain during menstruation is always normal, stressing the importance of getting checked when something feels different.

Dem Wa Facebook said:

“So also, ladies, never assume when you get periods and feel a lot of pain,” she added.
