Kenyan media personality Claudia Naisabwa has opened up about her approach to friendships, saying she is cautious about allowing people into her circle because of what she believes can be unclear intentions.

Claudia shared the remarks on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, shortly after Ugandan DJ and media personality Forever Etania spoke about the changing nature of friendships.

“This is why I refuse to allow anyone around me… Women are weird, but the men are even weirder. Come clean on your intentions from the start,” Claudia wrote.

Claudia on being careful about her circle

Claudia’s message suggested that she prefers people to be honest about what they want from her rather than entering her life with intentions that are not immediately clear.

For her, keeping a small circle appears to be a way of protecting her personal space and avoiding relationships where people may expect something in return.

Her remarks came as a wider conversation around genuine friendships continued, with Etania sharing her own experience of relationships that she felt had become increasingly transactional.

Forever Etania questions modern friendships

In her remarks, Etania recalled visiting a friend’s podcast in Nairobi, where she had previously spoken about how difficult it had become to find genuine friendships.

“Everything is a transaction in Nairobi. I remember going to my friend’s podcast and talking about it. People don’t want to genuinely be friends anymore. They want, ‘What do I give you? What do you give me?’ I learnt that the hard way,” she said.

According to Etania, she has also noticed a similar pattern in Uganda, where some people form friendships based on a person’s popularity, connections or the opportunities they can provide.

She said some people become friends with others because they are “popping”, have a certain aura or associate with influential people, while others may pursue friendships because they believe they can help them secure gigs.

‘Come clean on your intentions’

Etania said the experience has been particularly difficult for people who approach friendships genuinely and assume that others have the same intentions.

“And for genuine and authentic people like me, we suffer a lot because of how impulsively you think everyone likes you and they are with you because you’re friends, then begin to scatter when you don’t offer them what they thought you would offer them,” she said.

Claudia’s reaction appeared to resonate with that concern, particularly the need for people to be upfront about what they want from relationships. Her decision to keep people at a distance reflects a cautious approach to friendships, especially when intentions are not clear.

For Claudia, the message was simple: rather than allowing assumptions to shape a relationship, people should be honest about their intentions from the beginning.
