Central Kenya, Coast and Nairobi set for light to moderate rainfall in first 5 days of October

Residents across Nairobi, Central Kenya, the Coastal strip, and parts of the Eastern region should prepare for rainy spells over the coming days.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its latest five-day forecast valid from October 1, 2026, to October 5, 2026.
According to the advisory, “light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties.” While the month begins with warm, sunny conditions across most parts of the country, precipitation will steadily increase as the weekend approaches.
Rainy spells expected in Nairobi and Central counties
Nairobi and surrounding central counties including Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyandarua will open Thursday, October 1, 2026, with bright sunny intervals.
Maximum temperatures in the capital will reach 28°C on Thursday and Friday before dropping to 24°C by Monday, October 5, 2026. Nighttime conditions in Nyandarua will feel cold, dropping to a minimum of 5°C on Thursday night.
From Saturday, October 3, 2026, rainfall patterns will pick up across the central region.
Afternoon and evening moderate showers are expected in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murang’a, while Nyeri and Murang’a will experience moderate morning rains on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Showers spread across Coast, Western and Eastern regions
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi will enjoy sunny weather through Friday, October 2, 2026, before light showers arrive on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Kwale will see moderate morning showers on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Across Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin, counties including Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Busia will generally experience sunny mornings followed by light afternoon showers from Saturday through Monday.
In Eastern region counties like Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni, light morning rains and afternoon showers will begin on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Meru and Embu will record moderate night showers across the weekend, while Marsabit anticipates moderate morning rains on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Meanwhile, Turkana remains hot and dry with maximum temperatures reaching 38°C on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and Monday, October 5, 2026.
The weather agency reminds Kenyans to keep track of local changes over the five days. In its official statement, the department highlights that “This forecast should be used in conjunction with the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by this Department.”
