Bishop Ben Kiengei has issued an update on the burial arrangements of a long-serving member of Jesus Compassion Ministries [JCM] following meetings with both the immediate and extended family of the deceased.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the bishop revealed that he met Njoroge’s immediate family at their home in Malaa on Thursday, January 8, 2026, before proceeding to Mang’u, Kirai village in Gatundu North, where he held further consultations with the wider family as part of efforts to agree on funeral arrangements.

“Yesterday, I met Mr Njoroge’s family at his home in Malaa, and today I have met with his larger family in Mang’u, Kirai village in Gatundu North,” he said.

After a series of discussions, the family reached a unanimous decision that Njoroge will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 17, at his ancestral home in Mang’u, Gatundu North.

In his update, Bishop Kiengei also conveyed a message of acceptance and faith, encouraging the bereaved family and congregants to take comfort in the belief that suffering does not endure forever, and that illness, including cancer, does not have the final word.

“After a series of talks, the family has concluded that Mr Njoroge will be laid to rest on Saturday, the 17th, in Mang’u Gatundu North…. Rest well, Mzee wetu, because Cancer will also die one day,” Kiengei shared.

Untimely passing

The bishop first announced the passing of Njoroge in a Facebook post on Friday, January 9, 2026.

At the time, he noted that Njoroge was a devoted member of Jesus Compassion Ministry (JCM) Church and revealed that he died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved brother in Christ, Mr. Njoroge, was called home to be with the Lord on the 9th of January 2026,” Kiengei wrote on Facebook.

The preacher revealed that Njoroge, fondly referred to as “Mzee Wetu” within the church, had been part of the JCM congregation for three years and was deeply loved by fellow worshippers and various church departments.

He noted that the late congregant was closely supported by the JCM Church Men Council, the welfare team, the Lord’s Store team, the medical department, and online members who stood with him throughout his illness.

“Mr Njoroge, as we referred to him at JCM CHURCH, was a cherished member of our congregation for three years and will be deeply missed by all who worshipped God together with him, the JCM Church Men Council, Welfare, the Lord Store team and the medical department who took care of him,” the bishop added.

Bishop Kiengei further shared that Mr Njoroge had been battling blood cancer for more than a decade, describing him as a fighter who refused to give up despite the long and painful journey.

He stated that the church stood in awe of his resilience, faith, and unwavering commitment to God even in the face of prolonged illness.

“Mr Njoroge has battled blood cancer for more than 10 years. He has finished the race as a fighter who refused to give up,” Kiengei wrote.
