Radio host Alex Mwakideu has said exhausted passengers deserve rest during trips and called for crying children to be managed so others can sleep.

On Monday, December 15, 2025, he shared a personal account from a recent journey, saying, “Hii mimi nimejishuhudia mwenyewe jana,” as he explained what he experienced while travelling back to Nairobi.

He described the trip as calm and comfortable, noting that tired passengers are given space to rest. “Hakika ni mahali patulivu, pazuri,” he said, adding that when someone is exhausted, “unaweza ukapata ile blanket ya kujifunika.”

According to him, passengers can fully relax. “Unajifunika unalala pale. Hata ukitaka bedsheets utapewa,” he said, explaining that one can charge a phone, watch a movie, and “una doze off.”

However, Alex said the experience changed when a child began crying during the journey to Mombasa.

“Wakati wa kuenda, kukawa na mtoto pale. Huyo mtoto alilia,” he said. He added that the crying continued throughout the trip, making rest impossible.

“Ilikua huwezi kulala,” he said, questioning the situation as it unfolded.

Rest during trips

Alex stressed that his account was genuine, saying, “Na hii ni hadithi yangu ya ukweli.”

He recalled wondering why the situation was not addressed earlier.

“Nikajiuliza, mama yake si ampee maziwa,” he said, before noting that the journey continued despite the disruption.

He said a similar situation happened on the return trip, with another child crying. This time, action was taken.

“Safari ya kurudi, kukawa na mtoto pia,” he said. According to Alex, the announcer stepped in and addressed the mother.

“Ikabidi yule announcer amwambie yule mama mwenye yule mtoto, mtulize mtoto,” he said, explaining that people were tired and wanted to sleep.

“Watu wamechoka, watu wanataka kulala.”

Alex said the announcer acted after concerns were raised.

“Akaambiwa na announcer because abiria wengine apparently wakasema wa officials pale,” he said. He added that the issue was the intensity of the crying. “Huyu mtoto amelia sana. Talk to the mother. Abiria wameongea,” he recalled.

While making his point, Alex said his message was not against children. “Tunapenda watoto, lakini kuna kiwango mtoto analia,” he said.

He questioned the effort to calm the child, asking, “Unashangaa kama mama pia anabidii ya kumtuliza. Are you even worried that there are other passengers?”
