Alex Mwakideu urges women to know their limits when massaging men in barbershops

Radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has addressed the growing trend in Kenya where men receive massages after shaving, saying women should know the limits when providing these services.
During his radio show on Friday, December 12, 2025, he explained that some men go to barbershops just to be shaved and nothing more, while others expect additional treatments that may go beyond professional boundaries.
During his show, Mwakideu said, “Wanaume wanaoenda katika kinyozi wamesema Mwakideu kesho Jamhuri day ukienda lazima useme hii maneno na mimi nikasema sawa. Nikasema it is okay wacha niseme naitutoke.”

He said many men only need to be shaved and then leave, adding that extra massages are not always necessary.
He gave examples from his own experience, saying, “Kwa mfano mimi, mimi hata kukandwa hata huwa sina haja. Ninyolewe na niende home na mimi husema hiyo kitu kila siku, hata sikandwi.” He said some men want a little massage after being shaved, but the main focus should always remain professional.
“By the way kukandwa ni shoulder na amenyolewa kichwa. Hawa wana dada muwache kabisa. Unafungua vifunguo vya shati kabisa unaenda wapi? Focus, kichwa ndio amenyolewa,” he added.
Focus on professionalism and boundaries
Mwakideu said that women providing massages should respect professional boundaries and not give in to unnecessary requests.
“Hiyo ni number 1, number 2. Wameniambia niwaambie kama umemuuliza, akikuambia niko sawa, wachana nayo, wachana nayo,” he said.

He also advised women to ignore questions about facials or other treatments that are not part of the basic service.
“Mambo ya ohh ulifanya facial mwisho lini…ah ah..tulia,” he said.
He explained that these services should remain focused on the purpose for which they are intended, like head and shoulder massages, and not extend to other parts of the body unnecessarily. According to Mwakideu, maintaining limits helps protect both employees and clients while keeping barbershops professional.
He said respecting boundaries ensures that the services remain professional and that women providing massages are not put in uncomfortable situations. Mwakideu said, both men and women can enjoy safe and respectful experiences in barbershops without misunderstandings or overstepping boundaries.
