A key witness in Jeff Mwathi’s inquest, Faith Ndunge, who was among the three girls in the company of the deceased the night before he was found dead, has told the court that Jeff Mwathi had threatened to kill himself at DJ Fatxo’s house.

Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Rose Ndombi on Monday, August 18, 2025, Ndunge has told the court that while at DJ Fatxo’s house, Jeff held a knife and cried loudly, threatening to kill himself for lack of a father figure.

Ndunge told the court that after they were done with that night’s activities, DJ Fatxo offered to drop them – her, Mutanu and another lady by the name of Teresia – at Faith Mutanu’s place before proceeding to his house with Jeff.

However, on their way home, DJ Fatxo did not branch to Mutanu’s place, and she questioned him about where he was taking them.

In his response, DJ Fatxo told her that he is taking them to his place so that she may know where she will be delivering his orders.

Mutanu vehemently opposed Fatxo’s idea, arguing that she had an early morning errand to run, but he did not listen to her; he kept driving.

On reaching the apartment gate, he told them it would look awkward for them to go back without getting into the house and taking at least some water, to which they agreed.

When they got to the house, DJ Fatxo asked them what he could offer them, and the three ladies said they would take water, but Jeff said he would take gin.

After, they had a small session where DJ Fatxo started singing (Kikuyu songs which she did not understand) while playing a guitar, and Jeff sang along happily.

 2 men joined them

Within 15 minutes, they were joined by two men who were identified as his cousin and his driver (Chaka and Kim).

The ladies then ordered a taxi to take them home, but Fatxo told them to cancel; he would drop them at Mutanu’s place since he was heading in that direction.

Ndunge also told the court she and Mutanu proceeded to sleep in one of the bedrooms in Fatxo’s house, which was a two-bedroom house.

While they were sleeping, they heard commotion in the sitting room, woke up sleepy, and went to check what was happening.

“When we came out from the bedroom with Mutanu, we found Jeff crying loudly in the sitting room while holding a knife, and Chaka and Kim were with him,” Ndunge told the court.

The prosecutor then asked Ndunge how loud Jeff cried and whether he was saying the reason he wanted to take his life.

In reply, Ndunge said that Jeff was very loud. “Too loud; he was saying that he has no father figure and that he would want to kill himself,” Ndunge responded.

She further told the court that due to his cries, a neighbour came to ask them to lower their voices.

“It was a very confusing scene that I was not expecting. I was in there, and the rest were trying to calm Jeff down, and after he slept in the sitting room,” Ndunge told the court.
