Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended two suspected kidnappers and rescued two young women in Thika.
Through its verified X handle on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the DCI revealed that the persons of interest were apprehended after a swift response to a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
According to investigators, the women had been ferried from Nyeri on August 19, 2025, and held hostage in the Muguga area.

The anti-crime agency confirmed that officers stormed a house in the area and found the two victims visibly shaken, in tears, and showing signs of physical assault. Their mobile phones had been seized by the suspects in an attempt to cut them off from the outside world.
“Thika West detectives have taken into custody two suspected kidnappers, rescuing two terrified victims.
Responding swiftly, detectives stormed the house and found the two victims visibly shaken, in tears, and nursing signs of physical assault,” the DCI statement read in parts.
A subsequent search of the premises led to the recovery of seven mobile phones, five Safaricom SIM plates, and three Airtel SIM plates.
Detectives also impounded a motor vehicle, which they identified as the gang’s getaway car.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and other suspicious items.
Investigations ongoing
Preliminary findings have linked one of the persons of interest to a series of kidnapping and theft incidents in Nyeri.
Police believe the two could be part of a wider criminal network targeting unsuspecting victims across central Kenya.
“The duo is cooling their heels in police custody as detectives finalise investigations before their court date,” the DCI added.
Authorities commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remains a vital tool in combating rising cases of kidnapping and violent crime.
