Starlet Wahu murder case: Used condom, HIV test kit recovered from scene of crime

A scene of crime officer, Police Constable Allan Njoka, who is currently attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Dagoretti, Nairobi County, has tendered his evidence in the ongoing hearing over the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu.

John Matara is accused of killing Wahu on January 3, 2024, at Papino Apartment, Sana Sana area in South B within Nairobi County, but he pleaded not guilty to the murder charges against him.

Appearing before Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muteti on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Njoka informed the court that he recovered several items from the scene of the crime that included a used condom sachet, a knife, a handbag, and a passport with Mwangi Starlet Wahu’s name, among other things.

Constable Njoka presented 21 different photos that he captured from the scene of the crime, which included one used condom from the house where the body of the deceased was found.

Photographs one to three captured a general view of the Papino apartment and a general view of images showing stairs heading to rooms Y27 and Y32.

“In photograph 17, I captured a closer image of a phone, HIV test kits, and a condom search.”

“In photograph 20, I took a close-up image of a used condom,” Constable Njoka told the court.

Notably, the witness revealed that he also took a photo of the deceased leaning on a sofa and a knife that had blood stains, which was behind the same sofa in the sitting room of the house.

“In Photograph 19, I took a medium view showing a knife suspected to be the murder weapon behind a sofa,” Constable Njoka submitted to the court.

Njoka also revealed that Photos 8-11, which he took in both medium and close-up views, showed smeared blood in the sitting room and bedroom.

Photos 10-13, on a closer view, showed the face of the deceased, exposing an injury on the forehead and on the left ear. And Photo 14 was a closer view of the left hand, exposing an injury.

The court also heard that the deceased had a stab on her right thigh, which was captured in a closer view of Photo 15.

The officer also told the court that he recovered blood stains from the crime scene and handed them, together with other items, to the investigative officer.
