Kanyari reveals how Starlet Wahu’s death affected his mother

Vocal preacher Victor Kanyari has opened up about the pain his family continues to carry following the death of his sister, Starlet Wahu.

Speaking during a church service on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Kanyari said his mother, prophetess Lucy Nduta, has not fully recovered from the loss and still struggles with sleepless nights and emotional pressure.

According to Kanyari, Wahu’s death deeply affected their mother, who continues to remember the painful circumstances surrounding her final moments.

The proclaimed prophet added that his mother often cries when she thinks about Starlet and the life she had ahead of her.

“My mother does not sleep. She is constantly under pressure. She cries every day remembering what happened to my sister,” Kanyari said.

He explained that the family has had to live with the pain of losing Starlet, describing the experience as one that has been difficult for his mother to accept.

Remembering Starlet

Kanyari described his sister as a beautiful young woman whose life was cut short before she had children.

He said it remains painful for the family to remember that Starlet was buried after being killed in an incident that they believe could have been avoided.

“My sister was a beautiful girl. She did not have any children or even give birth. She was a pretty girl, but her life was cut short,” he said.

Wahu’s death

On January 3, 2024, the 26-year-old was brutally murdered in a short-term rental apartment in South B, Nairobi.

CCTV footage revealed Wahu entering the apartment with the suspected killer, John Matara, on the same night. Authorities discovered her body alongside a knife, two HIV test kits, and a used condom.

A postmortem examination revealed that Wahu was strangled and sustained a deep cut on her thigh, severing a vein and causing fatal blood loss. Her tragic end sparked public outrage over escalating violence against women.

The pastor added that his mother has struggled with the thought that her daughter went through a difficult experience before her death.

Family continues to grieve

Kanyari said the loss has continued to affect the entire family, especially their mother, who has been left with emotional pain and constant worry.

He noted that while life has continued since Starlet’s death, the memories remain fresh for those close to her.

Starlet’s death brought attention to the safety concerns faced by young women, especially in cases involving people they meet privately. For Kanyari and his family, the loss remains personal, with his mother still trying to come to terms with the death of her daughter more than two years later.

The pastor’s remarks have drawn sympathy from followers, with many sending messages of comfort to the family as they continue to mourn Starlet.
