Police arrest 26-year-old, recover pistol linked to robberies

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Ruaka, Kiambu County, following an intelligence-led police operation, with authorities recovering a firearm suspected to be linked to a series of violent robberies.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the suspect was apprehended in Mifereji, Ruaka, after reports of robberies in nearby Rweno and Kiambaa.
“Police in Kiambu County have arrested a 26-year-old man and recovered a firearm suspected to have been used in a series of violent robberies in the area,” read the police statement.
“The suspect was apprehended today, 16 August 2025, during an intelligence-led operation in Mifereji, Ruaka.
“The operation followed reports of a spate of violent robberies in Rweno and Kiambaa,” the NPS said, highlighting the strategic use of targeted intelligence in tackling criminal activity.
Firearm recovered
Following the arrest, the person of interest cooperated with police, leading officers to his residence, where they discovered a Retay Falcon pistol hidden inside a chicken shed. The firearm, found without ammunition, raises questions about its intended role in the alleged robberies.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to his residence, where a Retay Falcon pistol—without ammunition—was recovered, hidden inside a chicken shed,” police confirmed.
The recovered weapon has been secured as evidence, forming a critical part of the ongoing investigation.

Public reassurance
The person of interest remains in police custody as authorities continue enquiries into the robberies.
“The person of interest remains in custody, and the firearm has been secured as an exhibit. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court once enquiries are complete,” the NPS stated.
In a message to the public, the police reassured residents of their commitment to safety.
“The National Police Service reassures the public of its continued efforts to ensure safety and security in Kiambaa and beyond,” the statement read.
