Missing girl found dead in Kakamega sewage pit
The body of a 21-year-old girl has been discovered in a sewage pit in Jua Kali Phase 2 estate on the outskirts of Kakamega town, days after she went missing on Friday afternoon, October 24, 2025.
The deceased, Wendy Edda, was found dead in a sewage pit outside her house, with her mother revealing that Wendy disappeared on Friday afternoon, and all efforts to trace her were unsuccessful.
The mother, Lilia Lichin, suspects that her daughter did not fall into the pit by accident, suggesting that someone may have harmed her before dumping her body there.
Speaking to journalists about the disappearance and shocking discovery of her daughter, Wendy Edda, Lilia Lichina expressed deep concern that Wendy’s death may not have been accidental.
She revealed that she had previously suspected a man who lived nearby, saying he had made inappropriate advances toward her daughter.
“Lakini kuna one man alikuwa anathtreaten, I want to marry you. Huyu mtu anaishi hapo juu, alikuwa suspect wangu wa kwanza. Nikwambia mtoto wangu sijampata, akacheka tu,” Lichina said, suggesting that this individual could be connected to the tragedy.

Wendy’s father, Levi Mate, reflected on the painful situation and his determination to see justice served. He suggested that if someone had taken advantage of his daughter, it would have been better to leave her alive rather than commit a crime.
“Kama alichukua advantage ni kama amepata bibi, ni heri angemtendea maovu na amuache akiwa hai. Kwa upande wangu, nimeuzunika, I leave it to God, but I must follow all protocols to find justice,” Mate said, underlining his resolve to work closely with authorities to uncover the truth behind his daughter’s mysterious death.
Residents, led by Shieywe Ward Administrator Jessica Matasi, have called on the government to take action against the owner of the premises, citing the presence of several open sewage pits that pose a serious safety risk to the community.
