Kitengela: Police arrested over colleague’s murder in a love triangle

An administration police officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU), Athi River, will be arraigned at the Kajiado law court on Monday, August 11, 2025, over the murder of a Kitengela-based police officer.
The police officer is said to have thrown his colleague from the 4th floor of an apartment at Kitengela following a scuffle that ensued over a lover.
The deceased, who had been attached to Kitengela police station for two years, was pronounced dead on the spot.
The unexpected meeting
The deceased, who was positively identified as Manasseh Ithiru, is said to have checked into 27-year-old Irene Wavinya’s house at around 7 pm.
Later, Said Abubakar, who also identifies himself as Wavinya’s boyfriend, turned up unannounced.
Abubakar gained entry into the house using a spare key.
Neighbours account
According to the neighbours, they heard screams from Wavinya’s house and a commotion before the two men were spotted fighting on the balcony.
While trying to gain entry and establish the root cause of the scuffle, the neighbours claimed that Abubakar overpowered Ithiru by throwing him off the balcony.
“It is unfortunate that life has been lost in a case of infidelity. By the time we were trying to gain entrance into the house, we could hear screams of ‘why cheat on me’, ‘I pay this house’.I wish the two men had opted to just let go of their love and commitment to the said woman instead of fighting and trying to kill each other,’’ one of the neighbours narrated.
Residents have since condemned the incident, calling for the need to uphold acceptable moral values to curb such happenings.
“Humans have feelings and on the verge of anger, confrontations can turn deadly. I wish to urge my fellow women to uphold the integrity of having one lover at a time to avoid such incidents. Men are polygamous in nature, but barely withstand a woman having two men at a go. No emotions justify killing someone, it is indeed sad,’ ’Joyce Katunge, a Kitengela resident, insisted.
The two officers were in civilian clothes and were not armed during the incident.
Investigations
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Simon Lokitari said the matter is under investigation.
“It is indeed very unfortunate that life has been lost in the most heinous manner. The matter is sensitive and is already under investigation. For now, allow me to pass my condolences to the deceased family as they come to term with the incident,’’ Lokitari said.
A lead DCI officer investigating the matter has disclosed that Wavinya will also be investigated for murder.
The body was moved to the Shallom Community Morgue in Athi River.
