DCI confirms arrest of Murang’a MCA Grace Wairimu over links to Koimburi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Murang’a Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta Wairimu.
DCI, in a statement issued on the evening of Thursday, May 29, 2025, confirmed that the Kanyenya-ini ward MCA was in their custody over her links to Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi, who is being investigated for reportedly stage-managing his own abduction.

The anti-crime agency clarified that Wairimu had not been abducted as circulated on social media but had been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the reported stage-managed abduction of Koimburi.
“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to reports circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Grace Nduta Wairimu. We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi,” the DCI stated.
Links with Koimburi
The DCI went ahead to state that the MCA was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Koimburi on May 25, 2025, the entire night.
“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night. Further updates will be shared as the investigation continues,” the DCI statement read.
Kang’ata raises alarm
Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata had raised the alarm over the disappearance of Wairimu, stating that she was picked up by unknown persons under very unclear circumstances.
In a statement shared on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Kang’ata stated that unconfirmed claims had circulated suggesting that the MCA had been taken to Samuru Police Post in Gatanga.
Acting promptly, the governor confirmed that he had made a personal visit to the said police post to verify the matter, but she was not found there.
“Hon City MCA Kanyenyaini Kangema has been picked up by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports had suggested she is in the Samuru Police Post, Gatanga. I have visited the post to no avail,” Kang’ata stated.

Governor Kang’ata went on to affirm that the Murang’a County Government is now fully engaged in tracing the MCA’s whereabouts, especially in light of the worry and anxiety it has caused her family and constituents.
“Murang’a County will endeavour to trace her, particularly because of her family,” he added.
Koimburi’s abduction
DCI had earlier issued a report indicating that MP Koimburi may have staged his own disappearance to stir public drama.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, said that the officers trailed Koimburi’s movement from the time of his disappearance until the last moment he was discovered at the coffee plantation in Juja, but there was a mismatch.
“It is unfortunate for a whole member of parliament to go to that extent of stage-managing his own abduction, creating a lot of fear and tension in the country. Fortunately, we were able to expedite the investigations and expose to the public that the MP was indeed not abducted. We were able to account for all his movements from the time he attended church up to where he slept at night,” Amin stated.
After the missing person reports, Koimburi resurfaced on Monday, May 26, 2025, inside a coffee plantation farm in Kibichoi, Ruiru.
