A section of leaders from Murang’a county led by region Senator Irungu Kang’ata and Kandara MP Alice Wahome have told Jubilee to expect more defections ahead of the 2022 polls.
Speaking while addressing her constituents on Monday, Wahome revealed that Deputy William Ruto’s allied UDA party is epecting new members from Jubilee after the defection of Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba.
“We welcome new members who joined us recently and this is just the beginning because more leaders are going to join us soon,” Wahome said.
Her sentiments were also echoed by Senator Kang’ata of Muranga who told President Uhuru Kenyatta during an interview with a local daily that he has no genuine followers in his camp.
“In the letter I wrote President Uhuru in January, I told him he has no genuine followers and that he is surrounded by MPs who are lying to him,” Kang’ata said.
The Senator point out the recent defection of Wamuchomba adding that around four MPs had decamped form Jubilee in favor of UDA.
“The only MPs who will stay with Uhuru are Kanini Kega of Kieni, Ngunjiri Wambugu of Nyeri Town and their nominated counterpart Maina Kamanda,” Senator Kang’ata said.
Speaking exclusively to K24 TV on Tuesday night, Kang’ata revealed that he used to enjoy many privileges, some totaling to Ksh500,000 when he was in government as Chief Whip insisting that he made a conscious decision to move camp.
“I can tell you that a vast majority of MPs support William Ruto. A region has about 60 MPs and you will find that quite a substantial amount support the DP the ones that remain are there for a number of reasons like fear,” Kang’ata said.
