DCI busts govt official with KDF badges and ammunition

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a public officer at the Ministry of Lands and recovered a number of government properties.
In a statement released by the DCI on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Directorate revealed that the person of interest was in transit at the time of apprehension in Garissa County.
Further, according to DCI, who followed a tip-off that led them to the person of interest, he was found to be in possession of a number of government properties.
“Acting on a tip-off, Garissa Sub-County detectives have apprehended a public officer at the Ministry of Lands in Garissa, and recovered government stores in his possession,” read part of the statement.
The Directorate has revealed that the person of interest was intercepted along the Garissa-Lamu road while driving a black Toyota Prado
“The arrest took place along the Garissa-Lamu road, where he was intercepted driving a black Toyota Prado with the registration number KDQ 876Y,” stated the Directorate.
Similarly, DCI has revealed the government items found after a thorough search of his vehicle, which included, among them, KDF badges of the rank of captain.
“A preliminary search of the vehicle led to the following recoveries: three rounds of 9mm Colt ammunition, six personal cheques each worth Ksh500,000, KDF badges of the rank of Captain, and four mobile phones of various makes,” DCI noted.
The Visit to his residency
On the other hand, the DCI also revealed that the officers proceeded to the person of interest’s residence in Madogo and with the help of the brother, they were able to uncover at least five rounds of ammunition.
Likewise, other government items found at his residence were thirty blank title deeds, a lease certificate, among other land-related documents.

“Following the initial search, detectives proceeded to his residence in Madogo. With his brother present, they conducted a thorough search that uncovered even more alarming items: five live rounds of 7.62 X 51 ammunition, thirty blank title deeds, a lease certificate, and a variety of other land-related documents,” revealed the DCI
Additionally, the DCI has revealed that further search at the person of interest’s residence in Thika and Ruiru yielded additional items, including an original title deed of a land in Kajiado, an application for consent of the Lands Control Board in Kajiado, and assorted land documents.
According to DCI, he is currently in custody, undergoing processing as he awaits his court appearance.
