Court restrains nominated Senator Hezena’s ex-lover from accessing her

A Nairobi court has issued temporary orders restraining nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian’s former partner, Musa Hussein Lenyumpa, from accessing her residence or workplace.
Milimani Magistrate Festus Terer, in orders issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, also barred Hussein from publishing or causing the publication of any information relating to the Senator.
“In the meantime, the respondent is hereby restrained from publishing or causing to be published any information relating to the applicant,” Magistrate Terer ruled.
The court further prohibited Hussein from using the senator’s name or images for personal gain, as well as from assaulting, harassing, threatening, or interfering with her well-being.
Through lawyer Danstan Omari, Senator Lemaletian filed a petition at the Magistrate’s Family Court seeking a declaration that there is no valid marriage between her and Hussein.
In her affidavit, the senator stated that Hussein had been falsely claiming to be her husband under Samburu customary law. She argued that no dowry was paid, and that the KSh100,000 he gave was merely a token, locally referred to as ropiyani e loip, which she has since returned in full.
“There exists no marriage, statutory, customary, or otherwise, between myself and the respondent. His assertions are false, harmful, and dangerous,” the affidavit reads.
According to the senator, under Samburu customs, dowry equates to eight cows, a process that was never completed. While she acknowledged there was once an intention to marry, she said the process was not formalised.
She further alleged that Hussein had been physically and verbally abusive, once leaving her injured, and had led defamatory online campaigns using bloggers and social media influencers to falsely portray himself as her legal husband.
“As a public figure and national leader, my integrity is crucial for the effective discharge of my political duties. These false claims and publications have caused me emotional distress, social discomfort, and reputational harm,” she stated.
The matter will be mentioned on September 22, 2025, for further directions.
