Bomet residents demand justice for boy killed over bread and milk

Bomet residents have come out demanding justice for a thirteen-year-old, grade six boy, Emmanuel Kimutai, who was beaten by his father to death over milk and bread in Rongena Manaret of Bomet County.

Thousands of mourners gathered on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Chebunyo, Bomet County, to honour the life of the late Emmanuel, a child whose death broke many hearts.

As the investigation continues, the residents, especially the online family, are advocating for justice for the innocent boy.

Emmanuel was beaten by his father on Thursday, September 11, 2025, just a day before his prayer day.

The father was arraigned in the Bomet Law Courts on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

He was a Grade Six pupil at Chebugon Primary School in Rongena-Manaret Ward, and had been preparing to attend the school’s Prayer Day on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Autopsy report

The postmortem examination at Kapkatet Hospital in Kericho county reported that Emmanuel died primarily due to lack of oxygen caused by severe chest congestion, which restricted normal breathing.

Further examination uncovered severe internal injuries, including a ruptured blood vessel that caused fatal bleeding in the brain, while the spleen showed significant trauma and damage.

According to doctors, the combined impact of head injuries, respiratory failure, and internal organ damage triggered a “fatal cascade” that proved irreversible.

Justice for the boy became the talk of the day at his burial, with most of the mourners saying it was unjust for the father to kill the boy over bread.

The mourners encouraged the parents to get other ways of solving issues instead of the other way of injuring the children.

“It is heartbreaking that a child’s life was cut short over something as small as bread. Parents must find peaceful ways to resolve conflicts, not punish their children with violence,” said one mourner.

Local leaders led by area MP Victor Koech promised to acquire a small land in the area to construct a house for Emmanuel’s mother.
