2 nabbed as police seize 114 rolls of bhang in Kieni

Two individuals have been apprehended after being found in possession of 114 rolls of bhang during a targeted operation.
In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the operation was part of an ongoing crackdown targeting illegal brews and narcotics in the area.
Police confirmed that the two individuals are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court. The officers have reiterated their commitment to pursuing those involved in drug-related activities as efforts to rid communities of illegal substances continue.
“Today, 27 July 2025, police officers from Ndathi Police Station in Kieni East Sub-County, in collaboration with members of the National Government Administration (NGAO), conducted a targeted operation as part of an ongoing crackdown on illicit brews and dangerous drugs,” the statement by NPS read in part.
Adding
“During the operation, two individuals were arrested after being found in possession of 114 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis (bhang). Both suspects are currently in custody awaiting arraignment in court. This operation highlights the commitment of the National Police Service to ridding our communities of illegal drugs, as authorities continue to target any person or entity involved in the production, distribution, or use of narcotics.”

Similar operation in Busia
The Kieni East operation comes just two days after another successful raid in Malaba Town, Busia County, where two individuals were arrested and a total of 222 rolls of bhang were seized.
According to NPS, the operation was carried out by officers from Malaba Police Station in Teso North Sub-County on Friday, July 25, 2025.
“National Police Service officers from Malaba Police Station, Teso North Sub-County, Busia County, today, 25th July 2025, conducted a successful crackdown on narcotic drugs in Malaba Town, arresting two notorious individuals,” part of the statement read.
In the Busia incident, one person was found in possession of 201 rolls of dried green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 500 grams, along with two packets of brown Rizla papers commonly used to roll the drug. The second individual was found with 21 rolls of bhang, bringing the total to 222 rolls seized during the Friday operation.
