Former Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has dismissed hand sensor sanitary bins as an unnecessary invention, saying foot-operated bins work just as well.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Lilian shared a blunt opinion about the increasingly common touchless sanitary bins found in public washrooms. While the bins are designed to improve hygiene by reducing contact, she questioned why they need hand sensors in the first place.

“These hand sensor sanitary bins make no sense. Legs would do just fine,” Lilian wrote.

This comes months after she suggested that establishments should install push doors at restroom exits to help improve hygiene.

In a statement shared on her Instagram page on March 13, 2026, Lilian said many restrooms force people to pull the door open after washing their hands, something she believes defeats the purpose of cleaning them in the first place.

“Establishments should have PUSH doors so we don’t have to PULL them after washing our hands,” Lilian Ng’ang’a stated.
