2 arrested for narcotics trafficking in Turbo

Two persons of interest have been arrested in Turbo Sub-County following a successful police operation targeting narcotics trafficking.

Police said acting on a tip-off from members of the public, officers from Baharini Police Station intercepted a trailer suspected of transporting bhang from Busia to Eldoret City.

“The operation took place in the Milimani area, where officers stopped a Sino Truck (registration number KDL 433F/0736) carrying three occupants. Upon being flagged down, the suspects attempted to flee, but police managed to apprehend two of them.” The statement read the police X account on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

 Police said the search of the vehicle uncovered ten sacks filled with green, dried plant material reported to be cannabis sativa, which was seized as evidence.

“The two suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment. The vehicle was also impounded at the station,” police confirmed.

The National Police Service praised the public’s vigilance, emphasising the importance of community cooperation.

“We commend the public for their timely intelligence sharing, which led to this successful interception,” the statement read.

Police drug bust

Meanwhile, earlier, police in Nanyuki arrested two persons of interest and recovered a trove of looted property believed to have been stolen during recent protests in Laikipia County.

The operation took place on 29 July 2025, during a targeted search operation in Majengo Village, Laikipia East Sub-County. Officers from Nanyuki Police Station, under the leadership of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), launched the operation based on intelligence reports.

According to a statement from the police released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, on X, the two individuals were found with a wide range of items said to have been taken from local businesses during the demonstrations.

“Among the items recovered were twenty single shoes of different sizes, believed to have been taken from a Bata shop, seven packs of hair braids suspected to be from Bestlady Cosmetics, six pairs of socks, seven bulb holders, one sealing tape branded ‘Bestlady Cosmetics Ltd’, two pieces of sewing thread and two computer power cables,” the statement read.

Also seized during the raid was a modified pressure machine and approximately 350 NSP kits, which police said were looted from LifeCare Chemist, one of several establishments vandalised during the protests. Additionally, assorted wheel spanners were recovered, pointing to a broader pattern of theft during the recent unrest.
