TikTok sensation Fardosa reveals she never attended school

Days after capturing national attention for her glimpses into life in a Turkana-based refugee camp, TikTok sensation Fardosa has finally landed in her dream city, Nairobi.
The social media star arrived on Friday, August 22, 2025, following an invitation to appear on a local TV station for an interview.
Her visit was not only a chance to marvel at the sights of Nairobi for the first time but also an opportunity to share her little-known story and reflect on life before her carer, Shangazi, stepped in to support her and her friends.
During the interview, Fardosa addressed questions about her schooling, revealing that she had never attended school at any point in her life.
She dismissed suggestions that her confident Swahili on social media came from formal education, explaining that she learnt it entirely through daily life in the camp.
“It was just us in our team at Kakuma who knew Swahili. I never went to school. The Swahili I speak today, I learnt while helping my mother in the camp, fetching food and running errands. What I speak is the kind you pick up bit by bit from everyday life,” Fardosa said.

Kakuma
During the interview, Fardosa, who is no stranger to stirring headlines, also disclosed that she has no intention of returning to Kakuma in Turkana, even though some of her children still live there.
She openly admired the lifestyle in Nairobi compared to Turkana, where she said resources are limited and life is tougher.
The bubbly star, who has been making waves on TikTok, explained that Nairobi offers her the kind of comfort she has always desired, adding that her decision to remain in Nairobi is final.
“Me sitarudi Kakuma, mimi nitakaa hapa Nairobi. Shangazi atakaa na watoto Kakuma. Hapa Nairobi nataka nikae kwa ajiri ya maziwa mara na nyama. Pale Kakuma town tunaona TV ya town pekee,” she said, drawing laughter and support from her online followers.
She went on to reveal that her trip to Nairobi opened her eyes to a completely new world.
“Hii ni mara yangu ya kwanza kupanda gari. Numefurahia sana kukuja Nairobi. Nimeona vitu mingi lakini huku ni mbali sana, nimechoka!” she added, underscoring how new and overwhelming the experience has been for her.
