Songstress Sanaipei Tande is opening up about challenges facing female artistes in the hands of promoters and DJs.

Speaking on a local radio show, the ‘Mdaka Mdakiwa‘ hit singer recalls losing a couple of shows and consequently money for turning down advances from promoters.

“I lost shows because a promoter tells you they would like you to go to Naivasha and perform and we agree, there is M-PESA so they send me the deposit and they want it to be a thing for can we hang out or have drinks,” she said.

Further, she said she could not adjust to the casualness in the music industry where some handlers would text her as late as 11:00 pm or 12:00 am.

There is such a casualness that’s in the industry that I couldn’t deal with so I lost a lot of show and a lot of girls would tell me that if you want a DJ to play your songs you have to…do a little something with him,” she explained.

Speaking of payment, she added that artistes are lowly paid which made it difficult for her to source dancers and give a proper show.

She however maintained that she is content with her career adding that the few shows she does in a year are enough.
