Carrick delivers verdict on Manchester United’s summer transfer business

Michael Carrick has registered his satisfaction with Manchester United’s summer transfer business, acknowledging that the club is ready for the season after strengthening their ranks during what was a challenging window.
The Red Devils’ summer deals were dominated by midfield reinforcements, with Cameroonian Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans brought in to provide additional squad depth.
Other additions included the swoop for custodian Karl Darlow and youngster Tynan Thompson from Spurs.
Speaking on Friday, September 4, 2026, Carrick noted that his side has emerged from the window stronger and better equipped for the season.
“We have brought in some very good players and improved the squad in different ways,” Carrick stated. “We have grown. You go into the window, and when you come out of it, you want to be stronger than you were at the start.”
“I am convinced we are that. Transfer windows are never straightforward, and this window in particular has been challenging for different reasons.”

The summer saw a record-breaking deal for Enzo Fernández, who left Chelsea to reunite with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City, while Bradley Barcola marked Liverpool’s biggest summer expenditure after joining from PSG.
Carrick on rivals’ spending
Chelsea were also among the busiest clubs as part of a massive squad restructure under Xabi Alonso. While acknowledging the high-profile moves made by their direct rivals, the Englishman stressed that United remain fully focused on achieving their own objectives with the group they have assembled.
“There is a lot of money being spent in and around the league, and I think we have made the most of the situation we found ourselves in,” he added. “We have to make the most of what we have and understand where we are. I think we are a very good team, and we want to keep getting better.”
United will be back on duty on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when they visit Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
