YouTuber Nicholas Kioko, celebrity DJJackson Kamau, popularly known as DJ Soxxy, and comedian 2mbili have opened up on how becoming fathers turned around their lives.

Speaking on the night of Friday, June 13, 2025, during an interview with one of the local TV stations, the trio talked about how they had to change several things about themselves after being blessed with children.

Kioko’s take

For instance, Kioko said that once one becomes a father, his mindset changes. Other than just thinking about himself, Kioko says that one will be forced to start thinking about their family and the well-being of the child.

“A lot changes ju kama hauna mtoto, for example; it all starts with the mindset, haujifikirii pekee yako sasa. You are thinking about your family; you are thinking about mtoto wangu ameamkaje, atakula nini, and ataishi aje. Sio kama vile ulikuwa unafikiria before, kuamka asubuhi udandie mat, uende tao na urudi. “Anything you think, inaaffect familia, so you need to think like a dad now,” Kioko said.

DJ Soxxy’s experience

DJ Soxxy, on his part, said that once one becomes a father, he has to watch what they speak and do around their children. He argues that children will always copy what their parents say and do and will end up becoming exactly like them.

Soxxy went ahead to recount how telling a lie landed him in trouble with his daughter one time.

“Because you have someone looking up to you and watching you do things and say things, na hizo ndo vitu atapick na ataend up kukuwa tu kama wewe, so you have to be careful about how you say things and what you do. Nakumbuka siku moja nikipeleka watoi shule asubuhi, nilikuwa niwadrop alafu niende meeting, msee akanipigia simu akauliza uko? Nikamsho niko tu hapa karibu na T Mall, na saa hizo siko T Mall. Nilikata tu hiyo simu hivi, daughter wangu, akaniambia, Daddy, you lied,” DJ Soxxy said.

2mbili on life as a dad

2mbili noted that becoming a father pushes someone towards becoming more responsible and careful.

According to 2mbili, most men care less when they don’t have children and can even leave home and spend time outside with their friends for weeks.

The comedian also said that becoming a father has helped him in terms of managing his time and finances.

“On how I manage the change, I became more responsible, and you care more ju unajua sasa; before that, you cared less, hujali unaeza enda ata sleepover kwa maboys wako na ukae huko two weeks. Mimi, generally I became more responsible. How I manage my time, how I manage my finances. Hautaenda job upate 10K na ushike nayo jacket na viatu yote, because that was me back then,” 2mbili said.
