Mwakideu: Kenyans gone overboard buying tickets for Tanzania vs Morocco match
By Paulette Mboga, August 21, 2025Radio personality Alex Mwakideu has weighed in on the ongoing frenzy surrounding football match tickets, warning Kenyans to take a step back after many went as far as buying tickets for a clash that does not involve Kenya.
His remarks on a morning radio show on Thursday, August 21, 2025, come after reports that a section of football enthusiasts in Kenya purchased tickets for the upcoming Tanzania vs Morocco match set to be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Mwakideu, clearly taken aback by the lengths some fans have gone, urged calm and perspective. “Tulizeni. Mwenyezi Mungu akipenda mtapatana. Ndugu zangu Wakenya, tumeenda sana, tulizeni,” he cautioned.
Frustrations over Kenya vs Madagascar tickets
The drama stems from the high demand for tickets for the Kenya vs Madagascar clash, which sold out quickly, leaving many fans disappointed. Some of those who missed out decided to purchase tickets for other international fixtures, with the Tanzania vs Morocco game becoming an unlikely target.

According to Mwakideu, while passion for football is commendable, Kenyans may be stretching their support beyond reasonable limits. “Wakati ambapo tiketi za Kenya vs Madagascar ziliisha, Wakenya wakasema bas. Wakenya walishanunua. Sasa sisi ambao hatukupata tiketi, tiketi ziko hapa,” he observed, adding that some fans seemed intent on showing up even when the Harambee Stars are not playing.
This unusual trend has also sparked lighthearted banter online, with some joking that Kenyans are ready to “support” the Tanzanian national team, Taifa Stars, to the point of buying out their home match tickets.
A word of caution to Tanzanians
Mwakideu also sent a playful yet cautionary message to Tanzanians, warning them to be prepared. “Wakenya hapa Kenya wananunua tiketi za Tanzania vs Morocco ambao utachezwa katika Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Wanasema ya kwamba, tutanunua, Taifa Stars wacheze bila wachezaji. Ndugu zangu Watanzania kaeni chonjo. Hivi vita sijui kama mtaviweza,” he said.
His remarks captured both the humor and the seriousness of the situation, as the scramble for tickets highlights just how passionate Kenyan fans are about football. The trend reveals frustrations over limited ticket allocations for local matches, with demand far exceeding supply.
Mwakideu’s call for calm serves as a reminder that football passion, while powerful, must be balanced with practicality.
