Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called on parents to avoid exposing their children to alcohol, saying habits begin at home and children learn from what they see.

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, he warned that children grow up thinking it is normal to drink if they see adults doing it.

Mosiria said, “Please, if you must drink alcohol, don’t expose your children to such environments. Pombe sio supu, and children learn from what they see us do; they grow up thinking it’s right. I will continue engaging you and educating you on the importance of staying away from alcohol, if you must take it.”

In a video circulating online, Mosiria was seen talking to a woman at a local pub who had a child tied on her back. He appeared to take a tumbler that the woman was using and questioned her.

“Hii ni chang’aa, nani anajua kunusia hii? Madam, toka hapa na upeleke mtoto nyumbani. Yaani wewe mama mzima unaleta mtoto kwa pombe hapa, unaleta mtoto kwa wines and spirits?”

He also spoke to the pub attendant, asking, “Unauzia mpaka mama ako na mtoto pombe? Kuja ufunge hapa, huwezi uzia mama ako na mtoto pombe saa hii.”

Mosiria’s message shows the importance of protecting children from environments where alcohol is consumed. He said that even if adults choose to drink, it is crucial not to normalise such behaviour in front of children.

According to him, children observe and copy adults, and early alcohol exposure can influence their future choices. By confronting both the mother and the pub attendant, Mosiria sought to demonstrate the need for responsibility and awareness when it comes to children and alcohol.

Mosiria has said he will continue using his platform to educate parents and the public about the dangers of exposing children to alcohol and the role adults play in shaping young minds.

His intervention shows the wider societal concern about underage exposure to alcohol and the need for parents to model positive behaviour.
