Men under fire as Mwakideu exposes Kenya’s most overused breakup excuse

Radio personality Alex Mwakideu has voiced out what many women in relationships have been saying – they are tired of the constant sleeping excuses from their partners.

Wapenzi wameongea, wengi wao wakiwa wapenzi wa kike. Wamesema, enough is enough,” Mwakideu said in a radio show on Monday, August 25, 2025, emphasising the growing frustration among women who feel their concerns are being ignored.

He explained that the most common excuse women hear from their partners is the repetitive “sorry, babe, I was asleep” message. “Wamesema wamechoka na sms ya kusema sorry babe, I was asleep, sorry babe, I was sleeping, when you called, I was sleeping,” he added.

According to Mwakideu, this pattern has become too much for many women who now feel it is time to draw the line.

Sasa imekua too much. Uamue kama unataka kukua kwa uhusiano ama unataka kulala. Wamesema na sasa imewatoka,” he stressed.

You either choose love or sleep

Mwakideu did not mince his words when pointing out the need for partners to be intentional about their relationships. “You either decide. You want to be in a relationship or you want to sleep?” he challenged.

In his view, communication is a pillar of any relationship, and repeated excuses of being asleep undermine trust and emotional connection. Women, he said, are no longer willing to accommodate what feels like neglect disguised as rest.

His words, “Uamue kama unataka kukua kwa uhusiano ama unataka kulala,” summed up the ultimatum many women have been giving. According to him, patience has run out, and women are speaking up more boldly than ever before.

The outcry, as Mwakideu described it, is not simply about phone calls or missed texts. Instead, it reflects a deeper dissatisfaction with the lack of consistency and presence in relationships.

Wamesema na sasa imewatoka,” he concluded, signalling that women have reached their breaking point on this matter.

His remarks have ignited debate among fans, with some arguing that sleep is a natural need while others agree that using it repeatedly as an excuse shows disregard for one’s partner.

Either way, Mwakideu’s comments have sparked a wider conversation on priorities, presence, and the effort required to keep relationships alive.
