Veteran stand-up comedian and media personality Jasper Muthomi, widely known as MC Jessy, has shared a deeply personal and emotional journey behind his celebration in a candid reflection on his reaction to President William Ruto’s 2022 election win.

Speaking during a candid interview with radio host Alex Mwakideu on an episode uploaded on YouTube on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, he recounted earlier political heartbreak after losing the South Imenti parliamentary seat to Ithinji Shadrack Mwiti of the Jubilee Party, which he says he had high expectations of winning the position.

MC Jessy likened that experience to being emotionally wounded, however, he revealed that Ruto’s win brought him immense relief.

My plan was kushinda but huwezi niambia roho yako itatulia juu hukushinda, mimi sikushinda na sikusikia poa nilikuwa napigia kina Jalas na nawaambia bro umepata? Shukuru Mungu do not take it for granted,” he revealed.

The beauty about politics there is always another chance na ukijipanga poa utaipata.Nilienda CUEA sijapata mimi niliwa watu niliangushwa na mzee wa 84 years, kwa hivyo uko na machungu. Alafu nika kuja CUEA akataganzwa mshindi, ndio hiyo raha sasa mimi.”

The stand‑up comedian admitted he initially feared that Ruto might lose to ODM leader Raila Odinga and said he believed he would have ended up in the ICU if Ruto did lose the election because he had spent too much money campaigning for him.

Additionally, Jessy says he felt a surge of joy after the win, realising there was hope in new leadership.

He ultimately framed his joy not just as a partisan sentiment but as a symbolic moment of possibility, suggesting that Ruto’s victory was a relief to him.

“I think Ruto angeshindwa ningeenda ICU hiyo tiome nimetumia pesa mingi lakini aliposhinda nikasikia raha manake niliangalia nikaona there is hope, kama huyo ameshinda atleast mgeni amepata mwenyeji apone,” he added.

MC Jessy’s candidature

Jessy was running as an independent candidate.

He initially wanted to vie for the seat on the UDA party ticket, but his party leader recommended he drop out of the race for UDA’s Mwiti Kathaara and take up a role in his presidential campaigns.
