Media personality Maureen Waititu experienced a terrifying scare at home when her son Lexi got trapped in the bathroom late at night.

Maureen, on Instagram on Monday, September 15, 2025, revealed that she was woken up by her other son, Kai, who was screaming and shaking her to alert her that his brother was stuck.

Half asleep and in shock, she rushed to their room and discovered that Lexi was indeed trapped, and the bathroom handle had broken. The incident left Maureen deeply shaken as she tried to process the situation while ensuring her son’s safety.

A frightening wake-up call

“I thought I was dreaming,” Maureen recalled. “Kai was screaming at the top of his lungs, and I immediately feared the worst. I had to act fast to make sure Lexi was safe.” The situation was made more frightening by the fact that it happened in the middle of the night when everyone in the house was asleep.

The sudden screaming and the thought that her son could be in danger created a heart-stopping moment for Maureen. She had to stay calm while thinking quickly about how to handle the broken door and get Lexi out safely.

This incident shows how household accidents can escalate quickly, especially when children are involved. Broken doors or faulty handles may seem minor, but in certain situations, they can cause panic or even pose a real danger.

Maureen’s experience shows the importance of checking household fixtures regularly and making sure children know how to call for help in emergencies.

Even after Lexi was freed, Maureen admitted that she had not yet fully recovered from the shock.

“I will be calling a fundi tomorrow to fix the door properly,” she said.

She also praised Kai for being alert and raising the alarm in time, which helped prevent a potentially worse outcome.

Despite the frightening experience, the family was unharmed, and Maureen is grateful that her quick response ensured Lexi’s safety.

Maureen’s calm thinking helped turn a potentially dangerous situation into a safe outcome, demonstrating the importance of quick action in parenting.
