Content creator Kitt Kiarie has sparked a conversation after responding to a fan during her Q&A session on Thursday, September 4, 2025, about men’s role in family planning.

The fan pointed out that some men refuse to take part in the process yet often complain that women “trap them” with pregnancies.

Kiarie, never one to shy away from addressing sensitive topics, found the idea laughable.

“Men being victims has always been funny to me,” she said, questioning why responsibility in family planning conversations continues to fall disproportionately on women. “What are the menfolk doing? What are the men doing these days?” she posed.

Conversation on responsibility

Kiarie’s comments quickly sparked reactions, with many followers chiming in to share their experiences and observations. One follower noted a troubling trend among men who view pregnancy as a convenient shortcut to marriage.

“A pattern I’ve seen with men trying to marry (not one)… A few dates in, once they’ve seen that you could be someone they’d want to marry, they already start convincing you to go the route that is easy for them.

“Like, ‘Why don’t we just get pregnant, then we will go see your parents after the fact?’”

Another follower shared.

The reasoning behind such behaviour, the follower explained, is that a pregnancy could lower the bride price. With the woman already expecting, her parents might feel pressured to accept minimal negotiations rather than risk her raising a child alone.

“The logic is that this way the dowry will probably be low and your parents will give you away easily because, I mean, you are pregnant already, and since they’ll not want you to be a single parent, they’ll be eager to give you away. Wild,” the follower concluded.

Double standards

Kitt Kiarie found this logic deeply problematic, pointing out the double standards in how society treats men and women.

“Pregnancy lowering a woman’s status, but not a man’s, has always been very yuck to me. You do aaaalllll that, and that makes you ‘less than’? Society actually hates women,” she said.
