Kenyan actress Catherine Kamau alias Kate Actress has issued a public apology for making insensitive comments on social media amidst the ongoing protests against the government’s Finance Bill 2024.

In a statement shared on her Instagram account on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, the celebrated actress expressed deep regret over her comments, which she explained were made in response to false allegations about her recent trip to the United States being funded by the government.

“I want to sincerely apologize for the insensitive comment I made on my Instagram page. After much reflection, I realize that it was a reflex response to the false allegations about my recent trip to the US being government-sponsored. I reiterate that it wasn’t. However, I do acknowledge that I should have responded in a more respectful way,” she said.

The actress emphasized her commitment to using her platform responsibly and advocating for the fundamental rights of all Kenyans.

She assured her followers that she would continue to support efforts aimed at improving the country.

“I remain committed to using my platform to advocate for all our fundamental rights as a people, and will continue to voice my support for the betterment of our country,” she added.

The Finance Bill 2024 has sparked widespread protests in the country, with citizens expressing their dissatisfaction with the proposed economic measures.

Kate to join protests

Earlier, Kate announced her participation in the protests scheduled for Thursday, June 20, 2024. She also refuted claims that her trip to the US was funded by the government.

“I told you all that your government doesn’t have the money to sponsor my trip to the US, and that’s true. See you on Thursday. #RejectFinanceBill!!!”
