Kamene Goro speaks about her husband’s illiness after hospitalization
Media personality Kamene Goro has broken her silence about her husband, David Kamau alias DJ Bonez’s health, after his recent hospitalization made headlines.
During a Q&A session on her Instagram stories on Saturday, May 17, 2025, a fan asked how DJ Bonez was doing after rumours surfaced that he had been unwell.
The radio presenter reassured her followers that her husband was in good condition, but also called out those who appeared to be asking out of gossip rather than genuine concern.
“He’s well. Feel free to ask him. Also, I believe humanity dictates that when someone is not well, you support, don’t ask for udaku purposes. So if you had helped, you would know,” she responded.
Her comments came as a response to growing speculation and online chatter about the couple’s private life during DJ Bonez’s hospital stay.
Kamene also addressed claims that she had refused to let people visit her husband in the hospital, even after they had reportedly helped raise money for his medical bills. She denied the accusations and criticised the spread of false information.
“No, it is not true. So much misinformation and downright lies have been peddled about me in this situation. I’ve been maligned on outrageous levels. All I will say is you don’t know anything!” Kamene stated.
Kamene’s knee surgery
Bonez’s illness comes exactly a year after Kamene opened up about how grateful she was for the support he showed her during a difficult time in her life.
In May 2024, Kamene underwent knee surgery at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi. Speaking about it at the time, she explained, “I have come to repair my knee, I think I have told you guys the story before. Yeah, so I tore my meniscus, and I am mmh, yeah, so I am due for surgery.”
Adding;
“I am a little bit anxious about the whole anesthesia thing, I don’t know this time round coz every other time I haven’t been anxious about it but anyway so yes that is the surgery I am going in for I am hoping I will be able to walk as soon as possible coz I think for me he recovery is usually harder than the surgery.”
In May 2024, during a talk on a local TV station, the media personality opened up about how her husband stood by her throughout her recovery. She shared that he stepped in selflessly and cared for her without ever showing signs of fatigue.
“Most people tend to disappear when you get sick or something happens. My husband used to undress me, put me in the bathtub, shower me, then help me dress up… and he was there every single day,” Kamene recalled.
Despite being a busy entertainer, she said her husband made it a priority to be there for her every day, as she could barely move around the house.
“Ananiambia babe leo tunakula hivi. Dawa ndio hizi. How are you feeling? Can I do this for you? Yeye ndio alikuwa hapo every single day without fail. My family was very supportive, but he was there every day,” she shared.
Kamene also admitted that the recovery phase was physically and emotionally draining, as she was entirely dependent on him for her daily needs.
“Sometimes I would get fevers at night because of the pain. He is there getting a towel, trying to lower my body temperature, or calling a doctor to come attend to me,” the celebrated radio personality narrated.
She reflected on that period as a defining moment, helping her understand who truly cared about her beyond her celebrity status.
“When I was there at the top, everybody wanted to be up in my business, but when things get tough, people run. There is no doubt now that my husband loves me. He took care of me with so much love, and there is not a day that he complained,” she said further.
