Huddah Monroe: JKIA is not an airport, it’s a warehouse

Socialite and businesswoman Huddah Monroe has criticised Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), saying it does not meet international standards and comparing it to other airports in Africa.

In a strong statement shared online on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Huddah said Kenya’s main airport falls short in both design and service quality, describing it as more of a warehouse than a real airport.

Huddah said she was disappointed by the state of JKIA despite recent improvements, arguing that the facility still lags behind other airports on the continent.

“We are already behind. JKIA is not an airport; it’s a warehouse. Even the new terminal is average. To add fees is diabolical when you don’t offer INTERNATIONAL standards,” she said.

Compares JKIA to Ethiopia’s airport

She went on to praise Ethiopia’s main international airport, saying it is far ahead of Kenya’s in terms of size, structure, and global experience. According to Huddah, the Ethiopian airport stands out as one of the best in Africa. “No airport in Africa will ever compare to Ethiopia! Makes JKIA look like a child’s play area,” she remarked.

Huddah said the difference is visible from the moment one arrives at the Ethiopian airport, which she described as huge and full of travellers from all over the world. “You meet people from all over the world. Plus, it’s HUGEEEE,” she added.

The entrepreneur also shared her experience with security officers at the Ethiopian airport, saying they initially mistook her for one of their own nationals. “Ethiopian security gives me a hard time thinking I am theirs. Before showing my PP, why are you going to Kenya? Gotta keep saying I’m Kenyan Aii!” she said.

Huddah’s comments come at a time when the government has been implementing various changes and renovations at JKIA to improve its capacity and passenger experience. However, her statement suggests that despite these efforts, many travellers still feel that Kenya’s main airport needs major upgrades to match international expectations.

Known for her outspoken nature, Huddah has never shied away from expressing her opinions on national matters, lifestyle, and governance. Her latest remarks have once again drawn attention to the state of infrastructure at JKIA and the ongoing debate about whether the airport truly represents Kenya’s image as a regional hub for travel and business.
