Kenyan celebrities and fans held a candlelight memorial to honour the late comedian cum MC Fred Omondi at Captains Lounge and Grill along Mombasa Road.
The last dance event which went down on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, was in honour of the late Fred who used to host a nightclub show every Wednesday dubbed ‘Seductive Wednesday’.
Hosted by disc jockey Goerge Njuguna widely known as DJ Cream Dela Cream, the event brought together dancers and his celebrity friends such as Chipukeezy, Dr Ofweneke, Sosuun, and 2mbili, among others.
According to the city club, the mic king had hosted his last show a few days before his untimely death adding that he connected well with the dancers and gave his best while hosting seductive Wednesday.
“Following Fred’s untimely departure after his last show at Captain Lounge, we chose to do a tribute for him on the day he owned,” Seductive Wednesdays “ that was Fred’s day. He connected so well with the dancers and he gave his best, “Captains Lounge and Grill said.
“As captains fraternity and friends we urge you to join us this Wednesday for his last tribute. Coke bearing a small amount of money that will be channelled to his family for a befitting send-off. Fare thee well Fred Omondi.”
Fred’s death
The iconic comedian lost his life in a road accident in Nairobi early Saturday morning June 15, 2024.
According to his best friend and comedian, Onjiri said that he learned about Fred’s sudden death through a WhatsApp group adding that a doctor at Mama Lucy Hospital told him the deceased was taken to the facility when he was in very bad shape following the accident.
“Nimeongea na one of the doctors in here amesema aliletwa hapa na venye aliletwa amepata accident inakaa either ni hit and run ama alikua kwa piki piki akagongwa through that impact kwa sababu they say it is a fatal impact. It is a very very big impact. So inaweza kua ni hit and run ama inaweza kua ni accident ya piki piki,” Onjiri narrated.
Apart from event hosting, Fred was also a renowned comedian he was among the pioneers of Kenya’s biggest comedy show dubbed Churchill Show.
