Eric opens up on how he struggled to accept Fred Omondi’s death

Veteran comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has opened up on how he struggled to come to terms with the tragic death of his brother, Fred Omondi.
Speaking during a candid interview by Galston Antony that was aired on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Omondi disclosed that the loss affected him deeply and that he had never fully healed or come to terms with it because it happened so fast.
He went on to narrate that when he was first informed of his brother’s death, he doubted it was an accident. At the hospital, he questioned where it had happened and accused them of killing his brother, but they insisted it was an accident.
The comedian further explained that it took about an hour before they took him to the scene, and when he asked about the bodaboda, they delayed again and later took him to the police station. There, he saw the bodaboda and eventually traced the driver of the minibus, which is when he finally began to believe it was truly an accident.
“It did affect me a lot. I do not think I have healed from it or have ever come to terms with it, it happened so fast,” Omondi revealed.
“When I was told my brother was dead, I did not believe it was an accident. I went to the hospital and asked, Where did it happen? I told them, you killed my brother, but they said it was an accident, they took like an hour to take me to the scene. I had to go to the scene and asked, Where is the bodaboda? Again, it took like another hour, and they took me to the police station. I saw the boda boda, then I had to look for the driver of the mini bus, that is when I started believing it was an accident.”

Additionally, the father of two added that after he was told about the death, the first question that came to his mind was how his brother ended up on a bodaboda at 5:00 am and where he was going at that hour.
His immediate instinct was that his brother had been killed, especially because his activism was at its peak at the time, and he had visited parliament about eight times shortly before his brother’s death.
He added that he found it hard to believe it was an accident since the coincidence felt too much for him.
“Then I also asked how was my brother on a bodaboda? That was the first thing that came to my mind, my brother on a boda boda at 5:00 am, where was he going? My usual instincts were that you guys have killed my brother because at that time my activism was at the highest, and I had gone to the parliament like eight times just before my brother’s death,” he added.
“I could not believe it because the coincidence was too much for me.”
Eric on acceptance
The self-proclaimed president of comedy explained that when he went looking for the bodaboda rider, he discovered that the rider was also being buried, and that is when he began to believe it might have been an accident.
He added that they eventually accepted it as an accident and went ahead to bury his brother.

“Until this day, I still feel like was there an eye witness? I looked for the driver of the boda boda and found the driver of the boda boda being buried; that is when I started believing maybe it was an accident,” he explained.
“Finally, we accepted that it was an accident, and we buried him.”
