Eric Omondi’s look-alike shares how faking the comedian’s identity helped him find a wife

Samuel Muigai, a resident of Nyandarua and widely noted for his striking resemblance to comedian Eric Omondi, has opened up about how he once pretended to be the celebrated entertainer to win the affection of his now-wife.
Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui on Monday, October 27, 2025, Muigai narrated that he began noticing the similarities in 2020 after completing college.
“I am Samuel Muigai from Nyandarua. I noticed I resembled Eric Omondi in 2020 after finishing college. When I went to look for a job, someone asked why Eric Omondi was looking for work because they thought it was him,” he said.
He shared that while searching for work, he was frequently mistaken for Omondi, with people commenting on his looks and even questioning why the comedian was seeking employment.
“I went to a different company that was building a road in Ushago while I was looking for a plumbing job. When I arrived for the job, someone immediately said I looked like Eric Omondi. I looked in the mirror and realised the resemblance,” Muigai added.
Muigai revealed that during the courtship, he told his partner that he was Eric Omondi.

He recalled that his wife, who had limited exposure to social media and the public life of the comedian, believed him and continued the relationship under that assumption.
Muigai explained that the couple went on regular outings and dates, all while she remained unaware of the deception.
“I actually have a wife, and I dated her for one year while pretending to be Eric Omondi. She later realised the truth. During the time we were dating, she believed I was Eric Omondi, and that is why she agreed to be with me. At that time, I did not have money. Luckily, she was not active on social media and did not know about the real Eric Omondi,” he added.
Muigai then shared that the truth emerged only when she visited his home and saw personal photographs that revealed his true identity, by which time they had been dating for a year.
He added that at the time of the deception, he was not financially stable, and the impersonation arose from both circumstance and opportunity.
“Back then, we would meet outside and go on dates, so she had never been to my home. One day she came over, saw pictures on my wall, and asked me if I had been lying. That is when she realised I had been deceiving her,” Muigai added.
