Eric Omondi says his brother’s death pushed him deeper into activism

Veteran comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has opened up about the pain of losing his younger brother, Fred Omondi, revealing that the tragic loss became a turning point in his life.
He says Fred’s death not only left a deep emotional scar but also pushed him further into activism, shaping the outspoken and fearless figure he is today.
Speaking during a candid interview by Galston Antony that was aired on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Omondi admitted that Fred’s death was a tragic moment for him, explaining that although he had lost his mother in 2002, his father in 2004, and his elder brother in 2016, none of those deaths affected him as deeply as his younger brother’s.
He noted that they had been very close, hustled together, moved from the village to Nairobi, and even went to Churchill together, which made his brother’s death hit him harder than that of other family members.

“It was a tragic moment for me. I lost my mum in 2002, my dad in 2004, my big brother in 2016, but those deaths never hit me the way my brother’s hit me because my brother and I were close, we hustled together, we came from the village to Nairobi, we went to Churchill together, I think his death affected me more than the other members of the family,”Omondi explained.
“His death really affected me personally until today.”
Fighting spirit
He said his brother’s death strangely gave him purpose and a stronger reason to fight, adding that after the tragic moment, his activism and philanthropy went up.
The Sisi Kwa Sisi founder added that he felt he owed it to his late brother and to Kenyans to ensure the struggle was not in vain. He added that the loss pushed him to increase his activism, step up his philanthropy, and fight even harder for Kenyans.
“My brother’s death strangely gave me purpose and reason to fight more. I felt like I owed it to him and to Kenyans, and to ensure that we win this fight. I increased my activism, I increased the level of my philanthropy and am fighting more for Kenyans after that, “Omondi revealed.
