Liverpool have agreed to sell a minority stake in the Premier League club to 1892 Holdings, an investment group that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

The deal was announced by Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), on Friday, August 14, 2026, with the club also confirming the investment in a post on X.

“Fenway Sports Group have announced a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club, entering into a definitive agreement for the sale of a minority equity stake in the club to 1892 Holdings,” Liverpool said.

Bezos joins Liverpool ownership

1892 Holdings is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and includes investments from the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports and EE Capital, the family office of Eduardo and Elaine Saverin. Bezos is the lead investor in the K5 Sports fund.

Bezos, one of the world’s wealthiest businessmen and the founder of Amazon, will become a part-owner of Liverpool through the investment but will not take a seat on the club’s board.

Despite the sale, FSG will remain Liverpool’s majority owner and retain control of the club’s day-to-day operations.

Amit Bhatia is expected to take a more prominent role, becoming Liverpool’s vice-chairman and joining an expanded board alongside representatives of other investors.

FSG said the investment was designed to support Liverpool’s long-term growth rather than represent an exit from the club. The group has owned Liverpool since 2010 and has continued to oversee the club’s development on and off the pitch.

The agreement is also subject to the relevant regulatory approvals, including approval from football authorities.

Another minority investment under FSG

The new deal follows FSG’s previous minority investment arrangement with sports investment firm Dynasty Equity in 2023.

At the time, Liverpool said that investment was intended to strengthen the club’s financial position and support long-term growth, including infrastructure and other club-related projects.

The latest transaction brings another group of high-profile international investors into Liverpool’s ownership structure, with Bezos’ involvement adding a major technology and business name to the club’s growing global profile.

Liverpool, who have won 20 English league titles, are preparing for the new Premier League season, with the club’s ownership structure now set for a significant change while FSG remains in overall control.
