Cassypool emphasised that he holds no ill feelings toward the incumbent, Johnson Sakaja, acknowledging that Sakaja is doing his work.
Cassypool pledged that he would focus on his own campaign rather than bad‑mouthing Sakaja or other politicians.
“Yeah, I’m vying for the governor’s seat. I want to be the governor of Nairobi. I don’t want to talk about Sakaja; he is doing his work. I don’t want to be the type of politician who talks ill of other politicians. Sakaja is working; he is doing his best. Tukutane sisi sote 2027, Sakaja, Babu Owino. So I will not badmouth Sakaja, he is working, and I’ve worked with him on several projects,” Cassypool stated.

“Mimi nasimama kuwa Governor wa Nairobi. Bahati ni mtu unahesabu kusimama Governor? Nakuambia watu nitatandika ni Sakaja na Babu Owino,” he said in a past interview.
The announcement adds to a growing and increasingly crowded race for Nairobi’s top county seat. Several high-profile politicians have already declared their intent to contest, or are widely viewed as likely contenders.

Among those who have publicly declared are former Public Service CS Moses Kuria, who said he would vie for governor to restore order in Nairobi. Babu Owino, currently MP for Embakasi East, has also declared his bid, stating he will contest even without backing from his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

Tony Gachoka, a journalist-turned-political analyst who joined KANU in mid-2025, has also announced his plan to run for governor. Nairobi patron for the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP), Irungu Nyakera, has also expressed interest, though his bid is still considered informal.
Meanwhile, Governor Johnson Sakaja has not yet formally declared whether he will seek re-election, but many expect him to run again.
