Social media personality Cashmeer Sayyid has refuted claims that her close friends Shorn Arwa and Ntazola Gloria were aware that her much-publicised wedding was actually the launch of a personal project.

Speaking to YouTuber Trudy Kitui on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Cashmeer explained that she had kept the secret so tightly guarded that even those closest to her were unaware of the truth.

Despite public speculation suggesting otherwise, she insisted that Shorn Arwa did not know there was no wedding, and at one point, she nearly gave herself away when Arwa asked to see the wedding gown she was supposedly to wear. Similarly, Ntazola had no knowledge of the ruse.

“So I had to keep the secret very tight so that people would not know there was no wedding. Even Shorn Arwa, despite people saying she knew, did not know. I almost gave myself away and got caught because the night before, she asked me to show her the gown I would wear. Ntazola also did not know,” she said.

Cashmeer disclosed that Shorn Arwa frequently called her days before the event, questioning why she remained so calm despite having made no plans for typical wedding details such as the dance or the grand entrance.

To ease her friend’s concerns, Cashmeer told her the wedding would follow Muslim traditions, reassuring her there was no need to feel pressured. She admitted that both Shorn Arwa and Ntazola had their doubts but were ultimately kept in the dark.

“Shorn Arwa used to call me days before the event and ask why I was so calm, even though we had not planned how we would dance or make our entrance. I told her the wedding was a Muslim one and that she should not feel any pressure. So, they had doubts,” she said.

Reflecting on the event, Cashmeer said she experienced mixed emotions.

She narrated that as guests began to arrive on the day itself, she wondered how they would react upon realising there were no Congolese in-laws, a detail central to the staged narrative.

Minutes before stepping out to greet the crowd, Cashmeer said that she texted her sister, who informed her that everyone had arrived.

Her sister then played a video documenting Cashmeer’s journey growing up, which moved her to tears: tears that Cashmeer herself soon shared.

She added that the entire story she shared at the event was crafted by herself to convey the inspirational journey she wanted people to hear.

“I have mixed reactions. The event was on Saturday, and the days since then have been crazy because of the reactions I have gotten on social media. I did not expect that. Deep down, I knew there was no wedding. I texted my sister a few minutes before I went in, and she told me everyone had arrived. Moments before she came to pick me up, she told me she had played the video about my growing-up journey, and she started crying, so I also started crying. The whole story I was telling was created by me,” she added.

Cashmeer explained that her sister had encouraged her to tell her story, believing it to be very inspiring, but she felt many people were still struggling to understand its true meaning.

“My sister had previously asked me to share my story because it is very inspiring. The problem is that people are yet to understand it.”

The event had been billed as one of the most glamorous celebrity weddings of the year, set in a lavish venue with grand chandeliers, velvet drapes, and lush floral arrangements.

Kenya’s A-list celebrities turned out in remarkable outfits, anticipating Cashmeer’s marriage to a Congolese man, a narrative she had publicly announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

Instead, the night concluded with the launch of a new school, a project born from the scars of her troubled childhood.
