Renowned city designer Bolo Bespoke has boldly stated that cult is life and that everyone must belong to one, challenging common misconceptions around the term.

He explained that the idea of belonging to a cult is often misunderstood and misused, but in reality, it reflects the natural human desire for community and shared identity.

Speaking when YouTuber 2Mbili visited his office on Monday, July 14, 2025, Bolo clarified that owning expensive items, such as a gold phone with intricate carvings displayed in his office, does not imply cult membership.

According to him, having luxury items is simply a reflection of personal taste and wealth, and it should not be conflated with membership in a group or cult, which he described as more about belonging and connection than outward displays of wealth.

“That phone is worth six thousand only. It is not a lot of money; not everything has to be expensive. And not everything has to be a cult. But life most things are about cults you know.”

Addressing widespread rumours, Bolo urged people to reconsider how they perceive social groups, insisting that being part of a collective or community is essential for personal growth and support.

“Some people say I belong to a certain cult or group. Cult is life, brother. You have to belong to a cult. Not everything has to be a cult.”

He further lamented how the word cult has been widely misused and misunderstood, emphasising that many aspects of life are cultic by nature.

“You know, people have abused the word ‘cult’, but ultimately, everything is cultural. You have to belong to a cult.”

Albert Ojwang’s burial

In the same interview, Bolo also opened up on why he was not able to make it to the burial of blogger Albert Ojwang despite having fully planned to be there.

Bolo revealed that the burial, which was held on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Homa Bay, had been on his itinerary, but last-minute complications involving air travel by chopper forced him to cancel the journey entirely.

“And you know we were supposed to go. We were definitely supposed to go, but things did not go as planned. It was all about the chopper,” Bolo said.

He revealed that his intention to travel was also motivated by the fact that he hails from the same village as the late blogger Albert Ojwang.

“The burial was back in the village, in Homa Bay,” he added.

Bolo then lamented that when one is accustomed to travelling by helicopter, there come times when flight hours are exceeded and one cannot remain airborne any longer, especially if the necessary landing arrangements have not been officially approved.

He noted that if one intends to land using a chopper in such an event, space must be booked and landing must be coordinated well in advance, because that is just how things work.

“It was all about the chopper. You see, when you travel by chopper often, there are hours beyond which you simply cannot be in the air. Yes, I know that for a chopper in such an event, you have to book space in advance. If you are landing in a chopper, it must be known and planned well. It must be coordinated properly.”
