Bandana ya E-Sir is arguably one of the hottest songs on rotation currently.
The newly released track is an ode of the memory of one of Kenya’s musical talents who left this world too soon. The name is Issah Mmari Wangui alias E-Sir who died at the age of 21, 19 years ago in a road accident along the Nairobi -Nakuru highway.
Aptly named Bandana ya E-Sir, it is a track that cuts across generations and has been a long time coming. The song features veteran Kenyan artiste David Mathenge also known as Nameless, top Gengetone stars Nelly The Goon and D’More from Ochungulo Family, E-Sir’s brother Habib and teen star Trio Mio.
According to Nameless who was a close friend of the late artiste, the song which also features other veteran Kenyan artistes like Wyre, Big Pin, Tallia Oyando, Wahu and more, is an effort to introduce the young generation to what the legend E-Sir was.
The song truly breathes new life into the memory of the young fallen artiste who brought us hits like Moss Moss and Bumba Train. The easy flow, lyrical poetry and visuals dotted with E-Sir’s images wearing one of his favourite things, his red bandana is enough to make you reminiscence.
All the artistes featured on this commemorative track did not come to play and they did Kenyans proud with the delivery. Kenyan music fans were mostly impressed by the youngin, Trio Mio who they say is a reincarnation of the dead music star something that E-Sir’s brother Habib has denied.
Bandana ya E-Sir is a true collaborative project that truly speaks to who E-Sir was as a person. The song which was written by Nelly The Goon two years ago has received praise from a multitude of Kenyans, garnering thousands of views on YouTube since its release. It was produced by Motif The Don, directed by Nameless under the moniker Monski and the logo was designed by King Kaka.
As Kenyan music fans, this is one of those songs we never knew we needed but has put a smile on our faces with every listen. The coming together of the new generation and old generation of artistes also puts to rest the tug of war between the two factions. The merging of Genge and Gengetone in this new banger is effortless and E-Sir would have been really proud.
According to Nameless and his wife Wahu via their social media platforms, Bandana ya E-Sir merchandise will be available soon and all proceeds will go to his family.
E-Sir would have turned 40 in 2022 and this song reminds us that his music lives on. Long live E-Sir!
