Amina Abdi Rabar announces departure from NTV after 8 years

Talk show TV host Amina Abdi Rabar has announced her exit from NTV after eight years at the station, bringing to an end her tenure as host of The Trend in a farewell that stunned both viewers and her fellow panellists.
Her announcement came live on air on the evening of Friday, September 5, 2025, when she surprised her colleagues and fans by revealing that it was her last appearance.
She made the declaration just moments before signing off, leaving her co-hosts visibly taken aback.
“This is the last time I get to sign out from TTTT. My name is Amina Abdi Rabar. This was my last show. Yeah, it is not a lie. Thank you so much, guys. I am not lying. It is actually a few seconds to the end of the show so thank you so much, guys,” she said.

Her words, filled with gratitude, were met with confusion and shock from the panellists, some of whom thought she was joking.
But Amina insisted that her statement was genuine, confirming that her time at the Nation Media Group-owned station had indeed come to an end.
What made the moment even more striking was that she had not made any prior announcement or hinted at her departure on social media, meaning her farewell was not only unexpected to viewers but also to her co-panellists, who were caught completely off guard as she signed off.
In her farewell, Amina thanked her fans for their love, expressed appreciation to her colleagues on the panel, and saluted those who welcomed her when she first joined the show.
She reserved special gratitude for her fellow host Cindy, whom she described as among those who had guided her in her early days on The Trend.
“Thank you so much for the love, and thank you so much to everyone who welcomed me to the show. Thank you so much to Pat and Cindy, whom I found here, and thanks to every other panellist and co-host that I have had. Thank you so much to everyone else I found here. Catch you at 10 pm for another finale as we have fun. You wanna say bye, guys? It is time for the news, catch you at 10 pm, bye,” she said in an emotional moment that left her colleagues and audience in disbelief.

Her exit closes a significant era for the show.
Amina took over as host of The Trend in 2017, stepping into the shoes of CNN journalist Larry Madowo, who had built the programme into one of the country’s leading entertainment and lifestyle segments.
Over the years, she established her own style, blending humour, sharp commentary, and easy chemistry with the rotating panellists who shaped the Friday night conversations.
Amina’s television journey began at K24, a station under Mediamax, where she hosted the morning programme Alfajiri.
Thereafter, the Nation Media Group sought her to lead The Trend after Madowo’s exit.
She later expanded her media presence to radio, where she co-hosted the Capital FM breakfast show, further demonstrating her versatility across platforms.
Beyond her broadcast work, Amina is a multifaceted creative who has excelled as a singer, songwriter, actress, MC, and events facilitator.
At 36, she is regarded as one of Kenya’s most dynamic and versatile media personalities, with a career that has straddled radio, television, and entertainment.
